Alfie is a 9 year old Greyhound X who we are helping to find a new home under very sad circumstances.  He is vaccinated up to date and good with other dogs of all sizes but does not like cats!!  He is currently being fostered by a friend of his original owner and has been living happily alongside their resident small dogs and has behaved really well around visiting children.  He loves going for his walks but is a real couch potato when at home and loves a good snooze.  He is house trained and can be left alone for a reasonable amount of time.  Initial enquiries should be made by email to chair@ryedaledogrescue.org.uk or by phone on 07843 841778.  Any rehoming would be subject to a homecheck by RDR.

Willow (Black) 

Is 12 years old Lakeland x Bedlington. She is very affectionate and although slowing down still has the daily zoomies but for the rest of the day is happiest curled up being stroked and fussed. She is not a fan of rain/wind or snow but loves sunbathing. She would suit a quieter household when she could be a lap dog. She is very food orientated and was very easy to train, she has many different tricks and will do anything for a titbit (she is allergic to carrot). 

She likes slow and shorter walks. She is not a fan of off lead dogs as she has been attacked in the past, she has never shown any aggression only fear in these situations. She likes slow introductions to dogs on walks and once she knows them will seek out her doggy friends to say hello. 

She doesn’t shed so requires to be trimmed, she can be nervous at the doggy salon but will happily let you trim her with scissors. 

She has never known if she is a dog/cat or mountain goat, she has got on with every animal she comes in contact with. 

Hazel (Sandy)

6 year old Bedlington x Whippet, 

Full of life and loves a long walk. Hazel can be a little bouncy but soon settles down. She loves a cuddle and belly strokes. She will happily lay with you and watch TV on an evening. She is very submissive with dogs we meet on walks and after saying hello just wants to play.

Hazel does not like cats, she has been teased by the local cats and they send her into a frenzy. 

She loves to play with her rope toys and enjoys tug of war and playing fetch. She tries her best to keep all four paws on the ground when excited but sometimes needs to be told to watch her manners which she does. She will sit and wait, most of her day she likes to sit and watch the world go by even in the rain. Surprising for her size I often think I’ve lost her and find her curled up in a small ball having a snooze.

Although Willow is getting a little grumbly neither dog has ever shown any aggression and want nothing more than a good fuss. 

Neither of the dogs are currently vaccinated or neutered so this would need to be done at Ryedale Vets as part of the adoption contract (costs would be covered by RDR).  If you think you could offer a home to either or both girls please contact RDR in the first instance by emailing: chair@ryedaledogrescue.org.uk or calling 07843 841778.  Any rehoming would be subject to homechecking by RDR.

Rosie is a 5 year old Dachshund cross who we are helping to find a new forever home.  She is an affectionate girl once she gets over her initial shyness and loves to cuddle up for a nap.  She loves her walks and is good/gentle on her harness and lead and loves meeting other dogs.   Rosie travels well in the car but does struggle with being left home alone and will be quite vocal which is often typical of her breed so she would prefer to live with someone who is around most of the time or who she could travel with.  She isn’t neutered at present having had puppies in the past and her vaccinations need to be restarted but the cost of both would be covered by RDR at Ryedale Vets.  Any rehoming will be subject to a homecheck by RDR and all initial enquiries should be made to:  chair@ryedaledogrescue.org.uk or by leaving your name, number and brief details on 07843 841778.

It’s nearly time for our our fun dog show, which will be held at Malton Cricket Club on Sunday 28th June. Come and join us for some fun and games. The show starts at 11am and gates open at 10:30am.

Rodney & Sidney are a pair of very bonded brothers who are looking for a home together.  They were originally bought as Cocker Spaniel x Labradors, DNA tests indicate that they are 51% labrador, 15% cocker spaniel and 34% poodle!

They were born in October 2024 and are now fully vaccinated and castrated.  Although they look very similar their characters are quite different.  Rodney is very outgoing and definitely a bolder character, while Sidney is a bit more reserved and more of a ‘thinker’.  Their basic training is coming along, and they are learning to walk well on their harnesses.  They do get excited in new situations and with new dogs, but that’s just inexperience and they are learning all the time. 

Their ideal home would be an active one with people prepared to continue their training and socialisation.  They could live with older ‘dog savvy’ children, and would love a home with lots of outside space where they could run around and play.

The past twelve months have been extremely busy for RDR, and we have received a large number of calls and emails enquiring about rehoming dogs, or about dogs that need a new home. All the staff at RDR are volunteers, and many have full-time jobs too, but we try to answer your queries as quickly as possible. To help us manage the volume of enquiries, we are making some changes to our adoption process and how we handle enquiries.

Adoption Information

If you are enquiring about rehoming a dog please give us as much information about yourself as possible. This will speed up the adotion process, and help our volunteers to give you the most appropriate advice and guidance. Please include the following:

• Your name
• Address
• Contact Details, including phone number
• The name of the dog you are inteersting in adopting
• If you’re not asking about a specific dog, the type of dog you are interested in
• What experience you have of owning or living with a dog
• Some information about your home circumstances, for example:
  • whether you have children or young people living in the home
  • whether you have a secure garden
  • whether the dog would be left alone during the day, and if so, for how long.
