Happy Memories

Happy Memories

Over the years Ryedale Dog Rescue has rehomed over 1350 dogs. We always love to hear about the great times you’ve had with your dogs, and we’ve met menay of them at our events.

Sadly many of our wonderful woofers are no longer with us. So if you would like to tell us about your happy memories with your RDR dogs, please send us a few words and some pictures and we’ll post them here.

Sally

Sally came to live with us in 2012. She hadn’t had a great start in life, and it took a while for her to find her new forever home with us. But what a cracking dog she was.

She loved everyone she met and was kind , gentle and such fun to be around.

She used to love long walks and chasing tennis balls. At home she was happy as long as there was sofa space for her, and her best friend was our cat.

Sadly Sally became ill in 2017 and we made the heart rending choice to have her put to sleep.

Sally was great fun and loved by us all.

Jake

We lost Jake on 8th October 2024 after a short but sudden bout of illness. We were priveledged to have him in our lives for 11 1/2 years. He came to us at about a year old, and stole our hearts from day one. He was a happy, mischevious, incredibly brave and loving soul who was always up for an adventure but equally loved a cuddle and a snooze. He led a very full life and encouraged us to do the same. We miss him so very, very much but are eternally grateful that RDR saved this little man who brought us so much love and joy. RIP Jakey Jake.

Thomas

I remember the day we brought Thomas home way back in 2011. He was a beautiful bouncy Labrador and just full of love to give. Thomas was a very loyal dog. However in the early days he liked to chew ( pretty much everything he could get hold of!)

He became my shadow. He was so loved by all the family and would stick by my dad particularly as he had pockets of dog biscuits! Dad would always sneak Thomas a biscuit or two. Thomas was my shadow till his final day. The heartbreak of losing him is still so painful. He was a special dog. We have been blessed to call him our own. He is simply irreplaceable. He will forever leave a dog footprint on my heart.

Bella

Bella was rescued by RDR when she was about a year old and had been hit by a car after being abandoned in Pickering. Luckily for us, Rosie could see her potential and shortly after we took the plunge and took her into our family home as a very timid, underfed young girl. Slowly we gained Bella’s (formerly called ‘Treacle’) trust and she soon became the most loving Nanny dog to our boys. She was diagnosed with kidney failure and given just 3 months to live at the young age of about 5 but in typical resilient Bella style she lived on, with meds, for another 7 years before we sadly lost her due to this illness back in November 2024. She was a double winner of the ‘Best In Show’ at the RDR Malton dog show at the ages of 2 and 11!

Becks, Bella’s dog Mum, has done Christmas  wreath making nights with friends raising funds for RDR donating hundreds of pounds year upon year to give a little bit back for all the love that Bella’s rescue by RDR gave her and her family.
